LPG Storage

LPG materializes in gas form at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. For storage purposes, it is pressurized and frozen to be liquefied. Small quantities are stored in cylindrical or circular metal tanks, but large quantities are stored inside large artificial caverns located underground. The underground cavern storage technique is more secure than the above-ground tank storage, and is also very beneficial in terms of efficient land use and security of the country with relatively limited land area, and thus all LPG terminals in Korea use the underground cavern storage technique.

SK Gas’ Ulsan Terminal is the largest single underground storage facility in the world, and E1’s Incheon Terminal is the world’s first undersea LPG storage facility.
